Upgrades-Worthwhile or a Waste?

I love vacations! So I can understand when a customer tells me “I’d rather spend the money on a cruise than upgrade my roofing!” However, your home is an important investment, and an upgrade can be invaluable addition worth considering.

When it’s time to replace your roof, you want to pick your contractor very carefully then talk about upgrade options. There are numerous products out there, and not all of them will look right on your style of house.

A good contractor will take into consideration the style and price range of your home when offering you a choice for an upgrade. If you have been through the process of building or remodeling a home you may remember all the exterior choices you had to make: brick or stucco, wood or vinyl, types of windows, doors, landscaping. Many homeowners spend thousands of dollars landscaping then settle for a contractor grade shingle that is as bland as a yard without trees! Isn’t the roof something everyone can see? There are several reasons aside from aesthetics as well that may make an upgrade worth the extra expense.

Some shingles have better wind warranties which make sense if you are in an area that gets a lot of straight line winds. Other shingles have an aggressive seal down strip making them the right choice if your roof is over a 12/12 pitch. These are just a few examples of why it would be well worth your time to discuss an upgrade with your contractor. Plus, if you’re planning on selling your home, don’t be too quick to dismiss an upgrade… (more about this point in my next blog)

So as appealing as that cruise may be, don’t tell yourself “it’s just a roof” then later regret it when the neighbors replace their roof and you can’t stop looking at what Cox Roofing did for them!
