Cox Roofing celebrates and sponsors new Habitat for Humanity home

On a snowy December afternoon, construction work began on a new home for a single mother in need. Cox Roofing was proud to be a part of the celebration as both neighbors and sponsors for the Habitat for Humanity home.

Kaley, a single mother of two, was honored by friends, family and community leaders at the celebration. Cox Roofing President Ken Mills got the chance to congratulate Kaley and learn more about the construction process, as well as thank the Habitat for Humanity leaders for their work in supporting community members in need.

“I usually have a lot to say, but this is just overwhelming,” said Kaley. “I cannot thank you enough for what this means for me, for my kids. So thank you.”

At the construction kickoff, Ken also signed a stud, a long-standing tradition with Habitat for Humanity. The wood will be used to frame the home, which will take three months to build. Kaley shared her story and journey to homeownership with Ken at the celebration.

To become a Habitat homeowner, Kaley applied for a home in April 2019 and is expected to be moved into the home in March 2020. Since her application was approved last spring, she’s completed more than half the required 250 volunteer hours to receive a home.

“It’s an incredible project and work to be a part of,” said Ken. “At Cox Roofing, it’s so important to us to give back to our community. We’re proud to support Habitat for Humanity and so many other local charities that are supporting those in need.”

Since 2016, Cox Roofing has been a sponsor of the Tool Belts & Bow Ties gala, an event where attendees raise enough money in one night to build a Habitat home in Springfield, Missouri. These funds support the building of four to six Habitat homes a year.
